Brand: Planet Organic
Tea: Passionflower with Chamomile
Type: Tea bags
Ingredients: Organic Passionflower, Chamomile
Where I bought it: I’ve had this one a while but I’m pretty sure I bought it at the About Life store in Cammeray.
First Impressions: Their branding is consistent amongst their different teas but otherwise the packaging is fairly standard for a tea you find in the supermarket – a rectangle cardboard box.
Why I’m drinking it: At the time I purchased this tea I was specifically looking for passionflower. I had just run out of a different tea that had passionflower as one of the many ingredients and I wanted to isolate it. I’m drinking it today because I’ve just completed a huuuuuuuge assignment and I feel tired, a little bit anxious and like I just need to chill out. Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is an anxiolytic and a mild sedative so it can be used in cases of anxiety and insomnia1,2. Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) has a number of actions including carminative and sedative and is also used in cases of anxiety and insomnia1,2.
Aroma: For me, the chamomile is what comes out the most. It does have what I call a ‘herbie’ smell (others would recognise this if they work with dried herbs a lot – it’s that scent when you open a jar of dried herbs and the intense aroma hits you in the face).
Taste: The flavour is not excessively strong – it’s perfect for me when I’m tired because I don’t want a flavour sensation overpowering my brain.
Will I drink it again? Yes. It’s a calming, warm drink that isn’t going to kick-start my mind late at night like some other teas might.
